Synvisc-One Dosage

Hylan G-F 20 is injected directly into your knee joint. A healthcare provider will give you this injection.

Hylan G-F 20 is usually given once every week for 3 weeks. Follow your doctor's dosing instructions very carefully.

To prevent pain and swelling, your doctor may recommend resting your knee or applying ice for a short time after your injection.

Since this medication is given by a healthcare professional in a medical setting, an overdose is unlikely to occur.

Call your doctor for instructions if you miss an appointment for your hylan G-F 20 injection.

Uses of Synvisc-One

Synvisc-One treats osteoarthritis (OA) of the knee in patients who have not found adequate response from physical therapy and pain relievers.

Side Effects of Synvisc-One

Serious side effects have been reported with Synvisc-One. See the “Synvisc-One Precautions” section.

Common side effects of Synvisc-One include the following in or around the knee:

  • pain
  • swelling
  • heat
  • redness
  • fluid build-up

These reactions are generally mild and do not last long. Your doctor may recommend rest and applying ice to the injected knee.

Before receiving Synvisc-One, tell your doctor about all of your medical conditions. Especially tell your doctor if you:

  • are allergic to Synvisc-One or to any of its ingredients
  • are allergic to products from birds, such as feathers, eggs, or poultry
  • have an infection or skin disease in the area in which the injection is to be given
  • are pregnant or plan to become pregnant
  • are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed

Tell your doctor about all the medicines you take including prescription and non-prescription medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements.

Synvisc-One Overdose

If Synvisc-One is administered by a healthcare provider in a medical setting, it is unlikely that an overdose will occur. However, if overdose is suspected, seek emergency medical attention.

How is Synvisc One (hylan G-F 20)given?

The Synvisc brand of hylan G-F 20 is usually given once every week until you have received 3 injections. The Synvisc-One brand of this medicine is given only once. Your doctor will determine how many injections you should receive.

How is Synvisc-One given?

Synvisc-One is a single-dose treatment that is injected directly into your knee. A healthcare provider will give you this injection.

Synvisc-One dosing information

Usual Adult Dose for Osteoarthritis: Synvisc-One is administered as a single intra-articular injection. Strict aseptic administration technique must be followed.

  • Inject the full 6 mL in one knee only.
  • Using an 18 to 20 gauge needle, remove synovial fluid or effusion before injecting Synvisc-One.
  • Do not use the same syringe for removing synovial fluid and for injecting Synvisc-One.
  • Twist the tip cap before pulling it off, as this will minimize product leakage.
  • To ensure a tight seal and prevent leakage during administration, secure the needle tightly while firmly holding the luer hub.
