Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to methscopolamine or related compounds

Closed-angle glaucoma, myasthenia gravis, hemorrhage with cardiovascular instability, paralytic ileus, intestinal atony of elderly/debilitated patient, obstructive uropathy, toxic megacolon, GI obstruction, tachycardia secondary to cardiac insufficiency or thyrotoxicosis

Cautions

Renal/hepatic impairment, BPH, CHF, CAD, HTN, COPD, hiatal hernia, reflux esophagitis, mitral stenosis, brain damage or spastic paralysis in children, salivary secretion disorder, Down synd, autonomic neuropathy, hyperthyroidism, tachyarrythmia, toxin-mediated diarrhea

Elderly (see Beers Criteria)

Risk of heat prostration in high environmental temperature

May produce drowsiness or blurred vision, caution if performing hazardous tasks

Use low dosage for patient with increased susceptibility to adverse antimuscarinic effects

What is Pamine Forte (methscopolamine)?

Methscopolamine reduces the secretions of certain organs in the body, such as the stomach.

Methscopolamine is used to reduce stomach acid secretion to help control peptic ulcers.

This medication does not help heal a stomach ulcer.

Methscopolamine may also be used for other purposes not listed in this medication guide.

What other drugs will affect Pamine Forte (methscopolamine)?

Many drugs can interact with methscopolamine. Below is just a partial list. Tell your doctor if you are using:

  • digoxin (digitalis, Lanoxin);

  • an antidepressant such as amitriptyline (Elavil, Etrafon), clomipramine (Anafranil), doxepin (Sinequan), imipramine (Janimine, Tofranil), and others;

  • medicines to treat psychiatric disorders, such as chlorpromazine (Thorazine), haloperidol (Haldol), mesoridazine (Serentil), perphenazine (Trilafon), prochlorperazine (Compazine), thioridazine (Mellaril), or trifluperazine (Stelazine);

  • atropine (Donnatal, and others), benztropine (Cogentin), dimenhydrinate (Dramamine), methscopolamine (Pamine), or scopolamine (Transderm-Scop);

  • bronchodilators such as ipratroprium (Atrovent) or tiotropium (Spiriva);

  • glycopyrrolate (Robinul);

  • mepenzolate (Cantil);

  • bladder or urinary medications such as darifenacin (Enablex), flavoxate (Urispas), oxybutynin (Ditropan, Oxytrol), tolterodine (Detrol), or solifenacin (Vesicare); or

  • irritable bowel medications such as dicyclomine (Bentyl), hyoscyamine (Anaspaz, Cystospaz, Levsin, and others), or propantheline (Pro-Banthine).

This list is not complete and there may be other drugs that can interact with methscopolamine. Tell your doctor about all your prescription and over-the-counter medications, vitamins, minerals, herbal products, and drugs prescribed by other doctors. Do not start a new medication without telling your doctor.

Uses of Pamine Forte

  • It is used to treat GI (gastrointestinal) ulcers.

How is this medicine (Pamine Forte) best taken?

Use Pamine Forte as ordered by your doctor. Read all information given to you. Follow all instructions closely.

  • Take 30 minutes before meals and at bedtime.

What do I do if I miss a dose?

  • Take a missed dose as soon as you think about it.
  • If it is close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your normal time.
  • Do not take 2 doses at the same time or extra doses.

What are some other side effects of Pamine Forte?

All drugs may cause side effects. However, many people have no side effects or only have minor side effects. Call your doctor or get medical help if any of these side effects or any other side effects bother you or do not go away:

  • Feeling sleepy.
  • Blurred eyesight.
  • Dizziness.
  • Headache.
  • Hard stools (constipation).
  • Dry mouth.
  • Change in taste.
  • Upset stomach or throwing up.
  • Less sweating.
  • Feeling tired or weak.
  • Not able to sleep.
  • Feeling nervous and excitable.
  • Bloating.
