Mytrex topical

Nystatin is an antifungal medicine that fights infections caused by fungus.

Triamcinolone is a steroid. It reduces the actions of chemicals in the body that cause inflammation.

Nystatin and triamcinolone topical (for the skin) is a combination medicine used to treat skin infections caused by fungus or yeast.

Nystatin and triamcinolone topical may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.

You should not use this medicine if you are allergic to nystatin or triamcinolone.

Tell your doctor if you have diabetes. Steroid medicines may increase the glucose (sugar) levels in your blood or urine. You may also need to adjust the dose of your diabetes medications.

FDA pregnancy category C. It is not known whether nystatin and triamcinolone topical will harm an unborn baby. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant while using this medicine.

It is not known whether nystatin and triamcinolone topical passes into breast milk or if it could harm a nursing baby. Tell your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.

Do not use this medicine on a child without a doctor's advice. Children can absorb larger amounts of this medication through the skin and may be more likely to have side effects.

Apply the missed dose as soon as you remember. Skip the missed dose if it is almost time for your next dose. Do not use extra medicine to make up the missed dose.

It is not likely that other drugs you take orally or inject will have an effect on topically applied nystatin and triamcinolone. But many drugs can interact with each other. Tell each of your health care providers about all medicines you use, including prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products.

In deciding to use a medicine, the risks of taking the medicine must be weighed against the good it will do. This is a decision you and your doctor will make. For this medicine, the following should be considered:

Allergies

Tell your doctor if you have ever had any unusual or allergic reaction to this medicine or any other medicines. Also tell your health care professional if you have any other types of allergies, such as to foods, dyes, preservatives, or animals. For non-prescription products, read the label or package ingredients carefully.

Pediatric

Children may be especially sensitive to the effects of topical nystatin and triamcinolone combination. This may increase the chance of side effects during treatment. Therefore, it is especially important that you discuss with your child's doctor the good that this medicine may do as well as the risks of using it.

Geriatric

Many medicines have not been studied specifically in older people. Therefore, it may not be known whether they work exactly the same way they do in younger adults. Although there is no specific information comparing use of topical nystatin and triamcinolone combination in the elderly with use in other age groups, this medicine is not expected to cause different side effects or problems in older people than it does in younger adults.

Pregnancy

Breast Feeding

There are no adequate studies in women for determining infant risk when using this medication during breastfeeding. Weigh the potential benefits against the potential risks before taking this medication while breastfeeding.

Interactions with Medicines

Although certain medicines should not be used together at all, in other cases two different medicines may be used together even if an interaction might occur. In these cases, your doctor may want to change the dose, or other precautions may be necessary. When you are taking this medicine, it is especially important that your healthcare professional know if you are taking any of the medicines listed below. The following interactions have been selected on the basis of their potential significance and are not necessarily all-inclusive.

Using this medicine with any of the following medicines is not recommended. Your doctor may decide not to treat you with this medication or change some of the other medicines you take.

• Desmopressin
• Rotavirus Vaccine, Live

Using this medicine with any of the following medicines is usually not recommended, but may be required in some cases. If both medicines are prescribed together, your doctor may change the dose or how often you use one or both of the medicines.

• Aldesleukin
• Bemiparin
• Ceritinib
• Idelalisib
• Nadroparin
• Pixantrone
• Ritonavir

Using this medicine with any of the following medicines may cause an increased risk of certain side effects, but using both drugs may be the best treatment for you. If both medicines are prescribed together, your doctor may change the dose or how often you use one or both of the medicines.

• Alcuronium
• Aspirin
• Atracurium
• Fosphenytoin
• Gallamine
• Hexafluorenium
• Licorice
• Metocurine
• Phenytoin
• Primidone
• Saiboku-To

Interactions with Food/Tobacco/Alcohol

Certain medicines should not be used at or around the time of eating food or eating certain types of food since interactions may occur. Using alcohol or tobacco with certain medicines may also cause interactions to occur. Discuss with your healthcare professional the use of your medicine with food, alcohol, or tobacco.

Other Medical Problems

The presence of other medical problems may affect the use of this medicine. Make sure you tell your doctor if you have any other medical problems, especially:

• Herpes

• Vaccinia (cowpox)

• Varicella (chickenpox)

• Other virus infections of the skin—Triamcinolone may speed up the spread of virus infections

• Tuberculosis (TB) of the skin—Triamcinolone may make a TB infection worse

This medicine may be harmful if swallowed. If someone has overdosed and has serious symptoms such as passing out or trouble breathing, call 911. Otherwise, call a poison control center right away. US residents can call their local poison control center at 1-800-222-1222. Canada residents can call a provincial poison control center.

Notes

Do not share this medication with others.

This medication has been prescribed for your current condition only. Do not use it later for another infection unless told to do so by your doctor. A different medication may be necessary in that case.

Laboratory and/or medical tests (such as adrenal gland function tests) may be performed periodically to monitor your progress or check for side effects, especially if you use this drug for an extended period of time or apply it over large areas of the body. Consult your doctor for more details.

Missed Dose

If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to catch up.

Storage

Store at room temperature between 59-86 degrees F (15-30 degrees C) away from moisture. Do not store in the bathroom. Do not freeze. Keep all medicines away from children and pets.

Do not flush medications down the toilet or pour them into a drain unless instructed to do so. Properly discard this product when it is expired or no longer needed. Dermatologic

Dermatologic side effects associated with topical corticosteroids have included burning, itching, irritation, dryness, folliculitis, hypertrichosis, acneiform eruptions, hypopigmentation, perioral dermatitis, allergic contact dermatitis, skin maceration, secondary infection, skin atrophy, striae, and miliaria.

Irritation may occur rarely with nystatin, which is nonsensitizing and virtually nontoxic.

One case (1% of cases studied) of acneiform eruption has been reported with the use of the nystatin-triamcinolone topical combination.[Ref]

Endocrine

Endocrine side effects associated with triamcinolone preparations have included adrenal suppression, hyperglycemia, and glycosuria in some individuals.[Ref]

Some side effects of Mytrex may not be reported. Always consult your doctor or healthcare specialist for medical advice. You may also report side effects to the FDA.

Not to be used in the eyes.

Occlusive dressings should not be used.

Tight-fitting diapers or plastic pants should not be worn by pediatric patients who are being treated in the diaper area.

Discontinue use if symptoms not resolved after 25 days.

Due to their smaller body surface area to weight ratio, infants and children may be more susceptible to topical corticosteroid-induced HPA axis suppression and Cushing's syndrome.
