Dermatophytoses

1% cream or gel: Apply BID to the affected areas plus a 0.5-inch margin of healthy surrounding skin for 4 weeks

2% cream or gel: Apply qDay to the affected areas plus a 0.5-inch margin of healthy surrounding skin for 2 weeks

Indications

  • 1% cream: Indicated for treatment of tinea pedis, tinea cruris, and tinea corporis caused by the organism Trichophyton rubrum, Trichophyton mentagrophytes, and Epidermophyton floccosum
  • 1% gel: Indicated for treatment of tinea pedis, tinea cruris, and tinea corporis caused by the organism Trichophyton rubrum, Trichophyton mentagrophytes, Trichophyton Tonsurans, and Epidermophyton floccosum
  • 2% cream or gel: Indicated for treatment of interdigital tinea pedis, tinea cruris, and tinea corporis caused by the organism Trichophyton rubrum

Tinea Pedis

Uses of Naftifine

Naftifine is a prescription medication used to treat fungal skin infections such as jock itch, ringworm, and athlete's foot. 

This medication may be prescribed for other uses. Ask your doctor or pharmacist for more information.

What are some things I need to know or do while I take Naftifine?

  • Tell all of your health care providers that you take naftifine. This includes your doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and dentists.
  • Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan on getting pregnant. You will need to talk about the benefits and risks of using this medicine while you are pregnant.
  • Tell your doctor if you are breast-feeding. You will need to talk about any risks to your baby.

Use Labeled Indications

Tinea infections: Cream 1% and 2%, Gel 1%: Topical treatment of tinea cruris (jock itch), tinea corporis (ringworm), and tinea pedis (athlete's foot).

Tinea pedis: Gel 2%: Topical treatment of tinea pedis (athlete's foot).

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to naftifine or any component of the formulation

Drug Interactions

There are no known significant interactions.

Warnings/Precautions

Concerns related to adverse effects:

• Irritation: Discontinue if sensitivity or irritation occurs and institute appropriate therapy.

Other warnings/precautions:

• Appropriate use: For topical use only; not intended for oral, ophthalmic, or vaginal use. Avoid use of occlusive dressings and contact with eyes, nose, mouth, or mucous membranes.
