What are some things I need to know or do while I take Cetacaine?

For all uses of Cetacaine:

  • Tell all of your health care providers that you take this medicine. This includes your doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and dentists.
  • Do not use more than what your doctor told you to use. Do not use more often or longer than what you were told. Doing any of these things may raise the chance of very bad side effects.
  • Do not use Cetacaine on raw or broken skin. Do not use over large areas of skin without talking with the doctor.
  • Do not use coverings (bandages, dressings, make-up) unless told to do so by the doctor.
  • This medicine may cause harm if swallowed. If this medicine is swallowed, call a doctor or poison control center right away.
  • Use with care in children. Talk with the doctor.
  • If you are 65 or older, use Cetacaine with care. You could have more side effects.
  • Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan on getting pregnant. You will need to talk about the benefits and risks of using this medicine while you are pregnant.
  • Tell your doctor if you are breast-feeding. You will need to talk about any risks to your baby.

Mouth:

  • Do not eat while your mouth feels numb. You may bite your tongue.

What are some other side effects of Cetacaine?

All drugs may cause side effects. However, many people have no side effects or only have minor side effects. Call your doctor or get medical help if any of these side effects or any other side effects bother you or do not go away:

  • Irritation where this medicine is used.
