Uses For cetirizine

Cetirizine eye drops is used to treat itching of the eye caused by allergic conjunctivitis (pink eye). It works by preventing the effects of certain inflammatory substances, which are produced by the cells in your eyes and sometimes cause allergic reactions.

cetirizine is available only with your doctor's prescription.

cetirizine Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

Less common
  • Decreased vision
  • itching of the eyes
  • pain in the eye
  • redness of eye

Other side effects not listed may also occur in some patients. If you notice any other effects, check with your healthcare professional.

Dosing Adult

Allergic conjunctivitis: Ophthalmic: Instill 1 drop in affected eye(s) twice daily (~8 hours apart).

Dosing Geriatric

Refer to adult dosing.

Dosing Pediatric

Allergic conjunctivitis: Ophthalmic: Children ≥2 years and Adolescents: Refer to adult dosing.

Dosing Hepatic Impairment

There are no dosage adjustments provided in the manufacturer's labeling.

Storage

Store at 15°C to 25°C (59°F to 77°F).

Warnings/Precautions

Special populations:

• Contact lens wearers: Contains benzalkonium chloride, which may be absorbed by contact lenses; remove lenses prior to administration and wait 10 minutes before reinserting. Not for the treatment of contact lens irritation; do not wear contact lenses if eyes are red.

Other warnings/precautions:

• Appropriate use: For topical ophthalmic use only. To avoid eye injury and contamination, do not touch dropper tip to eyelids, surrounding area, or any surface.
