What happens if I miss a dose?

Since this medicine is used when needed, you may not be on a dosing schedule. If you are on a schedule, use the missed dose as soon as you remember. Skip the missed dose if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose. Do not use extra medicine to make up the missed dose.

What should I avoid while taking Aquatab DM (dextromethorphan and guaifenesin)?

This medication may impair your thinking or reactions. Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be alert.

Drinking alcohol can increase certain side effects of this medicine.

Ask a doctor or pharmacist before using any cough, cold, or allergy medicine. Many medicines available over the counter contain dextromethorphan or guaifenesin. Taking certain products together can cause you to get too much of this type of medication. Check the label to see if a medicine contains an antitussive or expectorant.

Aquatab DM (dextromethorphan and guaifenesin) side effects

Get emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficult breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Stop using this medicine and call your doctor at once if you have:

  • mood changes;

  • severe headache; or

  • severe dizziness or anxiety, feeling like you might pass out;.

Common side effects may include:

  • dizziness, drowsiness;

  • sleep problems (insomnia);

  • diarrhea; or

  • feeling nervous, restless, anxious, or irritable;.

Usual Pediatric Dose for Cough

12 years and older: Follow adult dosing

Dextromethorphan-guaifenesin 5 mg-100 mg oral granule:
6 to 12 years: 1 to 2 packets every 4 hours, not to exceed 6 doses/day
Under 6 years: Do not use

Dextromethorphan-guaifenesin 5 mg-100 mg/5 mL oral liquid:
6 to 12 years: 5 mL to 10 mL every 4 hours, not to exceed 60 mL/day
4 to 6 years: 2.5 mL to 5 mL every 4 hours, not to exceed 30 mL/day
Under 4 years: Do not use

Dextromethorphan-guaifenesin 10 mg-100 mg/5 mL oral liquid:
6 to 12 years: 5 mL every 4 hours, not to exceed 30 mL/day
2 to 6 years: 2.5 mL every 4 hours, not to exceed 15 mL/day
Under 2 years: Do not use

Dextromethorphan-guaifenesin 10 mg-200 mg/15 mL oral liquid:
6 to 12 years: 15 mL every 4 hours, not to exceed 30 mL/day
