What happens if I overdose?

An overdose of bacitracin and polymyxin B ophthalmic is not likely to occur.

What other drugs will affect AK-Poly-Bac (bacitracin and polymyxin B ophthalmic)?

It is not likely that other drugs you take orally or inject will have an effect on bacitracin and polymyxin B ophthalmic used in the eyes. But many drugs can interact with each other. Tell your doctor about all your prescription and over-the-counter medications, vitamins, minerals, herbal products, and drugs prescribed by other doctors. Do not start a new medication without telling your doctor.

What are some things I need to know or do while I take AK-Poly-Bac?

  • Tell all of your health care providers that you take AK-Poly-Bac. This includes your doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and dentists.
  • Avoid driving and doing other tasks or actions that call for you to be alert or have clear eyesight until you see how this medicine affects you.
  • Avoid wearing contacts unless told to wear them by your doctor.
  • Do not use longer than you have been told. A second infection may happen.
  • Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan on getting pregnant. You will need to talk about the benefits and risks of using AK-Poly-Bac while you are pregnant.
  • Tell your doctor if you are breast-feeding. You will need to talk about any risks to your baby.

If OVERDOSE is suspected

If you think there has been an overdose, call your poison control center or get medical care right away. Be ready to tell or show what was taken, how much, and when it happened.

How do I store and/or throw out AK-Poly-Bac?

  • Store at room temperature.
  • Protect from heat.
  • Store in a dry place. Do not store in a bathroom.
  • Keep all drugs in a safe place. Keep all drugs out of the reach of children and pets.
  • Check with your pharmacist about how to throw out unused drugs.

Precautions

As with other antibiotic preparations, prolonged use may result in overgrowth of nonsusceptible organisms, including fungi. Appropriate measures should be taken if this occurs.

Hypersensitivity

Hypersensitivity reactions have included itching, swelling and conjunctival erythema. More serious hypersensitivity reactions including anaphylaxis have been reported rarely.[Ref]

Local

Local irritation upon application has been reported.[Ref]
