Theramycin Z Topical

If your acne does not improve within 3 to 4 weeks, or if it becomes worse, check with your health care professional. However, treatment of acne may take up to 8 to 12 weeks before you see full improvement.

For patients using the pledget (swab), topical gel, or topical liquid form of erythromycin:

• If your doctor has ordered another medicine to be applied to the skin along with this medicine, it is best to wait at least 1 hour before you apply the second medicine. This may help keep your skin from becoming too irritated. Also, if the medicines are used too close together, they may not work properly.
• After application of this medicine to the skin, mild stinging or burning may be expected and may last up to a few minutes or more.
• This medicine may also cause the skin to become unusually dry, even with normal use. If this occurs, check with your doctor.
• You may continue to use cosmetics (make-up) while you are using this medicine for acne. However, it is best to use only ``water-base'' cosmetics. Also, it is best not to use cosmetics too heavily or too often. They may make your acne worse. If you have any questions about this, check with your doctor.

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

• Peeling
• redness

• Dry or scaly skin
• irritation
• itching
• stinging or burning feeling

• Peeling

Other side effects not listed may also occur in some patients. If you notice any other effects, check with your healthcare professional.

This medication is used to treat acne. It helps to reduce the number of pimples. Erythromycin is an antibiotic (macrolide-type). It works by stopping the growth of bacteria. Some brands of this product contain a large amount of alcohol, which dries extra oils from the skin.

How to use Theramycin Z Solution

This medication is for use on the skin only. Clean and dry the affected area as directed. Then apply a thin layer of the medication on the skin using the applicator or cotton balls/pads, usually twice a day or as directed by your doctor. Wash your hands after use.

Do not use large amounts or apply this more often or for a longer period than directed. Your condition will not clear faster, but the risk of side effects may be increased.

Use this medication regularly in order to get the most benefit from it. Remember to use it at the same times each day.

Avoid getting this medication in your eyes or inside the nose or mouth. If this occurs, rinse thoroughly with water.

Inform your doctor if your condition does not improve or if it worsens. It may take up to 3 months of regular use before the full benefits of this medication take effect.

Drug interactions may change how your medications work or increase your risk for serious side effects. This document does not contain all possible drug interactions. Some products that may interact with this drug include: disulfiram, metronidazole, tinidazole, other skin products (especially those that contain clindamycin or causes peeling/irritated skin).

This medicine may be harmful if swallowed. If someone has overdosed and has serious symptoms such as passing out or trouble breathing, call 911. Otherwise, call a poison control center right away. US residents can call their local poison control center at 1-800-222-1222. Canada residents can call a provincial poison control center.

For the best results, this medication is often used as part of a total skin care program. Follow your doctor's recommendations.

Missed Dose

If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to catch up.

Storage

Store the tightly-closed container at room temperature between 59-86 degrees F (15-30 degrees C). This medication is flammable, so keep it away from heat and open flame. Keep all medicines away from children and pets.

Do not flush medications down the toilet or pour them into a drain unless instructed to do so. Properly discard this product when it is expired or no longer needed.
