What special precautions should I follow?

Before using oxiconazole,

  • tell your doctor and pharmacist if you are allergic to oxiconazole or any other drugs.
  • tell your doctor and pharmacist what prescription and nonprescription drugs you are taking, including vitamins.
  • tell your doctor if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding. If you become pregnant while using oxiconazole, call your doctor.

What should I do if I forget a dose?

Apply the missed dose as soon as you remember it. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue your regular dosing schedule. Do not apply a double dose to make up for a missed one.

What side effects can this medication cause?

Oxiconazole may cause side effects. Tell your doctor if any of these symptoms are severe or do not go away:

  • itching
  • burning
  • redness
  • dry or flaky skin
  • tingling

If you experience any of the following symptoms, call your doctor immediately:

  • pain
  • swelling
  • open sores
  • skin rash

If you experience a serious side effect, you or your doctor may send a report to the Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) MedWatch Adverse Event Reporting program online (http://www.fda.gov/Safety/MedWatch) or by phone (1-800-332-1088).

How supplied

OXISTAT (oxiconazole) Cream, 1% is supplied in 15-g tubes (NDC 0173-0423-00), 30-g tubes (NDC 0173-0423-01), and 60-g tubes (NDC 0173-0423-04). Store between 15° and 30°C (59° and 86°F).

OXISTAT (oxiconazole) Lotion, 1% is supplied in a 30-mL bottle (NDC 0173-0448-01). Store between 15° and 30°C (59° and 86°F). Shake well before using.

OXISTAT (oxiconazole) Cream and Lotion are not for ophthalmic or intravaginal use.

Use Labeled Indications

Cream: Topical treatment of tinea pedis (athlete's foot); tinea cruris (jock itch); tinea corporis (ringworm) due to Trichophyton rubrum, Trichophyton mentagrophytes, or Epidermophyton floccosum; and tinea (pityriasis) versicolor due to Malassezia furfur

Lotion: Treatment of tinea pedis (athlete's foot); tinea cruris (jock itch); tinea corporis (ringworm) due to Trichophyton rubrum, Trichophyton mentagrophytes, or Epidermophyton floccosum

Dosing Renal Impairment

There are no dosage adjustments provided in the manufacturer's labeling; however, dosage adjustment unlikely due to low systemic absorption.
