Uses of Interferon Alfa-2b Prefilled Pens
- It is used to treat cancer.
- It is used to treat genital warts.
- It is used to treat perianal warts.
- It is used to treat hepatitis B and C infections.
- It is used to treat skin wounds in patients with AIDS-related Kaposi's sarcoma.

What do I need to tell my doctor BEFORE I take Interferon Alfa-2b Prefilled Pens?
- If you have an allergy to this medicine or any part of this medicine (interferon alfa-2b prefilled pens).
- If you are allergic to any drugs like this one, any other drugs, foods, or other substances. Tell your doctor about the allergy and what signs you had, like rash; hives; itching; shortness of breath; wheezing; cough; swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat; or any other signs.
- If you have ever had any of these health problems: Autoimmune disease or liver disease.
- If you have had a transplant.
- If you are breast-feeding or plan to breast-feed.

Tell your doctor and pharmacist about all of your drugs (prescription or OTC, natural products, vitamins) and health problems. Do not start, stop, or change the dose of any drug without checking with your doctor.
What are some things I need to know or do while I take Interferon Alfa-2b Prefilled Pens?
For all patients taking this medicine:
- Tell all of your health care providers that you take this medicine (interferon alfa-2b prefilled pens). This includes your doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and dentists.
- Avoid driving and doing other tasks or actions that call for you to be alert until you see how this medicine affects you.
- Tell your doctor if you have signs of high blood sugar like confusion, feeling sleepy, more thirst, more hungry, passing urine more often, flushing, fast breathing, or breath that smells like fruit.
- If you have high blood sugar (diabetes), you will need to watch your blood sugar closely.
- You may have more chance of getting an infection. Wash hands often. Stay away from people with infections, colds, or flu.
- You may bleed more easily. Be careful and avoid injury. Use a soft toothbrush and an electric razor.
- Have an eye exam as you have been told by your doctor.
- Very bad and sometimes deadly liver problems have happened with this medicine (interferon alfa-2b prefilled pens). Call your doctor right away if you have signs of liver problems like dark urine, feeling tired, not hungry, upset stomach or stomach pain, light-colored stools, throwing up, or yellow skin or eyes.
- Very bad and sometimes deadly lung problems have happened with this medicine. Call your doctor right away if you have lung or breathing problems like trouble breathing, shortness of breath, or a cough that is new or worse.
- A very bad skin reaction (Stevens-Johnson syndrome/toxic epidermal necrolysis) may happen. It can cause very bad health problems that may not go away, and sometimes death. Get medical help right away if you have signs like red, swollen, blistered, or peeling skin (with or without fever); red or irritated eyes; or sores in your mouth, throat, nose, or eyes.
- If you are 65 or older, use this medicine (interferon alfa-2b prefilled pens) with care. You could have more side effects.
- This medicine may affect growth in children and teens in some cases. They may need regular growth checks. Talk with the doctor.
- Use birth control that you can trust to prevent pregnancy while taking this medicine.
- Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan on getting pregnant. You will need to talk about the benefits and risks of using this medicine (interferon alfa-2b prefilled pens) while you are pregnant.
Hepatitis infection:
- It is not known if this medicine will prevent liver failure or other liver problems like cancer. Talk with the doctor.
- This medicine does not stop the spread of diseases like HIV or hepatitis that are passed through blood or having sex. Do not have any kind of sex without using a latex or polyurethane condom. Do not share needles or other things like toothbrushes or razors. Talk with your doctor.
- This medicine may be used with ribavirin. If you are also taking ribavirin, talk with the doctor about the risks and side effects that may happen.
