Ceclor CD

Cefaclor is a prescription medication used to treat certain infections of the ears, throat, skin, and urinary tract. Cefaclor also is used to treat pneumonia and bronchitis. Cefaclor belongs to a group of drugs called cephalosporin antibiotics. These work to stop the growth of bacteria by preventing them from forming a cell wall. 

This medication comes as a capsule, extended-release (long-acting) tablet, and a liquid to take by mouth. The capsules and liquid are usually taken 2 to 3 times a day.

The long-acting tablet is usually taken every 12 hours with food. Do not chew, divide, or break cefaclor extended-release tablets. Swallow cefaclor extended-release tablets whole.

Common side effects of cefaclor extended-release tablets include headache, nasal inflammation, and diarrhea.

Common side effects of cefaclor capsules and liquid are diarrhea and itching.

Common side effects of cefaclor include the following:

Extended-release tablets:

• headache
• inflammation of the mucous membranes inside the nose
• diarrhea
• nausea
• inflammation of the vagina
• stomach pain
• worsening cough
• itching
• back pain

Liquid and capsules:

• diarrhea
• itching
• inflammation of the vagina
• stomach pain
