Alglucerase Intravenous

Name: Alglucerase Intravenous

Proper Use of alglucerase

alglucerase will not cure Gaucher's disease but it does help control it. Therefore, you must continue to receive it if you expect to keep your condition under control. You may have to receive alglucerase for the rest of your life. If Gaucher's disease is not treated, it can cause serious blood, liver, skeletal, or spleen problems.

Dosing

The dose of alglucerase will be different for different patients. Follow your doctor's orders or the directions on the label. The following information includes only the average doses of alglucerase. If your dose is different, do not change it unless your doctor tells you to do so.

The amount of medicine that you take depends on the strength of the medicine. Also, the number of doses you take each day, the time allowed between doses, and the length of time you take the medicine depend on the medical problem for which you are using the medicine.

  • For Gaucher's disease:
    • For injection dosage form:
      • Adults and children—The dose is based on body weight. It is injected slowly into a vein over one to two hours. To start, some patients may receive 1.15 Units per kilogram (kg) (0.52 Units per pound) of body weight three times a week. Other patients may receive up to 60 Units per kg (27 Units per pound) of body weight as often as once a week or as seldom as every four weeks. Later, your doctor may raise or lower your dose.

Precautions While Using alglucerase

It is important that your doctor check your progress while you are receiving alglucerase to make sure that the dosage is correct for you.
