Uses of Salicylic Acid Cream and Lotion

How is this medicine (Salicylic Acid Cream and Lotion) best taken?

Use salicylic acid cream and lotion (keratoses) as ordered by your doctor. Read all information given to you. Follow all instructions closely.

For all uses of salicylic acid cream and lotion (keratoses):

  • Do not take salicylic acid cream and lotion (keratoses) by mouth. Use on your skin only. Keep out of your mouth, nose, and eyes (may burn).
  • If salicylic acid cream and lotion (keratoses) gets in the eyes, rinse with cool water.
  • Clean affected part before use. Make sure to dry well.
  • Do not breathe in the vapors.
  • Wash your hands before and after use. Do not wash your hands after use if putting this on your hand.

For calluses, corns, or warts:

  • You may soak the affected part for 5 minutes.
  • You may cover with a thin dressing if told to do so by the doctor.
  • Put a thin layer on the affected skin and rub in gently.

For psoriasis or seborrheic dermatitis:

  • Put a thin layer on the affected skin and rub in gently.
  • If the product is for use on the scalp, follow how to use as you have been told or read the package insert.

What do I do if I miss a dose?

  • Put on a missed dose as soon as you think about it.
  • If it is close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your normal time.
  • Do not put on 2 doses at the same time or extra doses.

What are some other side effects of Salicylic Acid Cream and Lotion?

All drugs may cause side effects. However, many people have no side effects or only have minor side effects. Call your doctor or get medical help if any of these side effects or any other side effects bother you or do not go away:

  • Skin irritation.
  • Dry skin.
  • Burning.
