What is Oxy Daily Wash (benzoyl peroxide topical)?

Benzoyl peroxide has an antibacterial effect. It also has a mild drying effect, which allows excess oils and dirt to be easily washed away from the skin.

Benzoyl peroxide topical (for the skin) is used to treat acne.

There are many brands and forms of benzoyl peroxide available and not all brands are listed on this leaflet.

Benzoyl peroxide topical may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.

What is the most important information I should know about Oxy Daily Wash (benzoyl peroxide topical)?

Benzoyl peroxide can cause a rare but serious allergic reaction or severe skin irritation. Stop using this medicine and get emergency medical help if you have: hives, itching; difficult breathing, feeling light-headed; or swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

What should I discuss with my healthcare provider before using Oxy Daily Wash (benzoyl peroxide topical)?

You should not use benzoyl peroxide if you are allergic to it, or if you have:

  • very sensitive skin.

Ask a doctor or pharmacist if it is safe for you to use this medicine if you have other medical conditions, especially skin conditions or allergies.

It is not known whether benzoyl peroxide topical will harm an unborn baby. Ask a doctor before using this medicine if you are pregnant.

It is not known whether benzoyl peroxide topical passes into breast milk or if it could affect a nursing baby. Ask a doctor before using this medicine if you are breast-feeding.

Do not use this medicine on a child without medical advice.

What happens if I miss a dose?

Use the missed dose as soon as you remember. Skip the missed dose if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose. Do not use extra medicine to make up the missed dose.

Seek emergency medical attention or call the Poison Help line at 1-800-222-1222.

Dermatologic

Very common (10% or more): Peeling, application site erythema
Common (1% to 10%): Dryness, pruritus, contact sensitization reactions
Uncommon (0.1% to 1%): Burning sensation
Frequency not reported: Contact dermatitis, application site rash, application site discoloration, application site reactions (irritation and pain)[Ref]
