Methacholine Pregnancy Warnings

Animal reproduction and fertility studies have not been conducted. There are no controlled data in human pregnancy. US FDA pregnancy category C: Animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in humans, but potential benefits may warrant use of the drug in pregnant women despite potential risks.

This drug should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed. US FDA pregnancy category: C Comments: -It is not known whether this drug can cause fetal harm or affect reproductive capacity. -A female patient should inform her physician if she is pregnant, the date of the last onset of menses, and/or the date and result of her last pregnancy test. -In females of childbearing potential, administration of the inhalation challenge should be performed either within 10 days following the onset of menses or within 2 weeks of a negative pregnancy test.
