What should i avoid while taking loratadine and pseudoephedrine (alavert d-12, claritin-d, claritin-d 24 hour, leader allergy relief d-24, loratadine-d 24 hour)?

This medication may cause blurred vision or impair your thinking or reactions. Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be alert and able to see clearly.

Drinking alcohol can increase certain side effects of this medication.

Avoid taking diet pills, caffeine pills, or other stimulants (such as ADHD medications) without your doctor's advice. Taking a stimulant together with a decongestant can increase your risk of unpleasant side effects.

Ask a doctor or pharmacist before using any other cold, allergy, or sleep medicine. Antihistamines and decongestants are contained in many combination medicines. Taking certain products together can cause you to get too much of a certain drug. Check the label to see if a medicine contains an antihistamine or decongestant.

What should I discuss with my healthcare provider before taking loratadine and pseudoephedrine?

Do not use loratadine and pseudoephedrine if you have used an MAO inhibitor in the past 14 days. A dangerous drug interaction could occur. MAO inhibitors include isocarboxazid, linezolid, methylene blue injection, phenelzine, rasagiline, selegiline, tranylcypromine, and others.

Ask a doctor or pharmacist if it is safe for you to take this medication if you have:

  • kidney disease;

  • glaucoma;

  • heart disease or high blood pressure;

  • diabetes;

  • thyroid disorder; or

  • bladder obstruction or other urination problems.

It is not known whether loratadine and pseudoephedrine will harm an unborn baby. Do not use this medicine without a doctor's advice if you are pregnant.

Loratadine and pseudoephedrine can pass into breast milk and may harm a nursing baby. You should not breast-feed while using this medicine.

Use Labeled Indications

Cold, allergy symptoms: Temporary relief of sinus and nasal congestion, runny nose, sneezing, itching of nose or throat and itchy, watery eyes due to common cold, hay fever (allergic rhinitis), or other upper respiratory allergies or sinusitis

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to loratadine, pseudoephedrine, or any component of the formulation; during or within 14 days of MAOI therapy; severe hypertension or coronary heart disease

Dosing Geriatric

Refer to adult dosing.

Administration

Oral: Do not divide, chew, crush, or dissolve tablets.
