GaviLyte C Description
GaviLyte- C with flavor pack is a white, colon lavage preparation provided as water-soluble components for solution. In solution this preparation with lemon flavor pack added delivers the following, in grams per liter.

Potassium chloride 0.745
Sodium bicarbonate 1.68
Sodium sulfate 5.68
Flavor ingredients 0.500
When dissolved in sufficient water to make 4 liters, the final solution contains 125 mEq/L sodium, 10 mEq/L potassium, 20 mEq/L bicarbonate, 80 mEq/L sulfate, 35 mEq/L chloride and 18 mEq/L polyethylene glycol 3350. The reconstituted solution is an isosmotic solution, for oral administration, having mild salty taste. This preparation can be used without the lemon flavor pack and is administered orally or via nasogastric tube.
Each lemon flavor pack (2 g) contains natural lemon flavor powder, saccharin sodium, maltodextrin.
Warnings
Flavor pack is for use only in combination with the contents of the accompanying 4 liter container. No other additional ingredients (e.g., flavorings) should be added to the solution. GaviLyte- C with flavor pack should be used with caution in patients with severe ulcerative colitis.
What is the most important information I should know about GaviLyte-C (polyethylene glycol electrolyte solution)?
Do not use this medication if you have a perforated bowel, a bowel obstruction or severe constipation, or colitis or toxic megacolon. Polyethylene glycol electrolyte solution can cause dangerous or life-threatening side effects in people with these conditions.

Uses of GaviLyte-C
- It is used to clean out the GI (gastrointestinal) tract.
What do I need to tell my doctor BEFORE I take GaviLyte-C?
- If you have an allergy to polyethylene glycol or any other part of GaviLyte-C (polyethylene glycol-electrolyte solution).
- If you are allergic to any drugs like this one, any other drugs, foods, or other substances. Tell your doctor about the allergy and what signs you had, like rash; hives; itching; shortness of breath; wheezing; cough; swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat; or any other signs.
- If you have any of these health problems: Bowel block, enlarged colon, hole in the GI (gastrointestinal) tract, or slow-moving GI (gastrointestinal) tract.
- If you have electrolyte (like sodium, potassium, phosphate) problems.
This is not a list of all drugs or health problems that interact with this medicine.
Tell your doctor and pharmacist about all of your drugs (prescription or OTC, natural products, vitamins) and health problems. You must check to make sure that it is safe for you to take GaviLyte-C with all of your drugs and health problems. Do not start, stop, or change the dose of any drug without checking with your doctor.
How is this medicine (GaviLyte-C) best taken?
Use this medicine as ordered by your doctor. Read all information given to you. Follow all instructions closely.
- Take GaviLyte-C as your doctor has told you. Follow all instructions you have been given closely. This includes when to take this medicine, foods and drinks to avoid before the exam, and when to stop eating and drinking before the exam. Talk with your doctor if you have any questions.
- Do not take other drugs within 1 hour of starting GaviLyte-C. Talk with your doctor about how to take your other drugs with this medicine.
- Mix with water as told before you take GaviLyte-C (polyethylene glycol-electrolyte solution). Do not swallow the dry powder.
- Some products come with flavors that can be added to the solution. Only add flavors that come with the kit.
- Chill the solution to make it taste better. However, do not give chilled solution to an infant. Talk with your doctor.
- Shake well before use.
- Drink clear liquids before, during, and after taking this medicine. Do not drink any liquids that are purple or red.
What do I do if I miss a dose?
- Take a missed dose as soon as you think about it.
- If it is close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your normal time.
- Do not take 2 doses at the same time or extra doses.
- Call your doctor if you are not able to finish GaviLyte-C before your exam.
If OVERDOSE is suspected
If you think there has been an overdose, call your poison control center or get medical care right away. Be ready to tell or show what was taken, how much, and when it happened.
