ClindaMax Vaginal

Clindamycin is used to treat certain vaginal infections. It works by killing the bacteria. This medicine will not work for vaginal fungus or yeast infections.

Clindamycin is available only with your doctor's prescription.

If your symptoms do not improve within a few days, or if they become worse, check with your doctor.

It is important that you visit your doctor after you have used all your medicine to make sure that the infection is gone.

This medicine may cause some people to become dizzy. Make sure you know how you react to this medicine before you drive, use machines, or do anything else that could be dangerous if you are dizzy.

It is important that you tell your doctor right away if diarrhea occurs while you are using this medicine or after you have finished your treatment. It could be a symptom of a serious condition that your doctor will need to diagnose and treat.

Vaginal medicines usually leak out of the vagina during treatment. To keep the medicine from getting on your clothing, wear a minipad or sanitary napkin. Do not use tampons since they may soak up the medicine.

To help clear up your infection completely and make sure it does not return, good health habits are also required.

• Wear cotton panties (or panties or pantyhose with cotton crotches) instead of synthetic (for example, nylon or rayon) panties.
• Wear only freshly washed panties daily.

Do not have sexual intercourse while you are using this medicine. Having sexual intercourse may reduce the strength of the medicine. This may cause the medicine to not work as well.

Do not use latex (rubber) contraceptive products such as condoms, diaphragms, or cervical caps for 72 hours after stopping treatment with vaginal clindamycin cream. The cream contains oils that weaken or harm the latex products, causing them to not work properly to prevent pregnancy. If you have any questions about this, check with your health care professional.

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor as soon as possible if any of the following side effects occur:

• Itching of the vagina or genital area
• pain during sexual intercourse
• thick, white vaginal discharge with no odor or with mild odor

• Diarrhea
• dizziness
• headache
• nausea or vomiting
• stomach pain or cramps

• Burning, itching, rash, redness, swelling or other signs of skin problems not present before use of this medicine

After you stop using this medicine, it may still produce some side effects that need attention. During this period of time, check with your doctor immediately if you notice the following side effects:

• Itching of the vagina or genital area
• pain during sexual intercourse
• thick, white vaginal discharge with no odor or with mild odor

Other side effects not listed may also occur in some patients. If you notice any other effects, check with your healthcare professional.

This medication is used to treat a certain type of vaginal infection (bacterial vaginosis). Clindamycin is an antibiotic that works by stopping the growth of bacteria. See the Precautions section for information about use during pregnancy.

How to use Clindamax Cream

Read the Patient Information Leaflet for instructions on the proper use of this medication. Consult your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions.

This product is for vaginal use only. Wash your hands before and after each application. Avoid contact of this cream with your eyes. If it gets into your eyes, wash them right away with plenty of water. Call your doctor if eye irritation persists.

Fill the applicator with the cream according to the directions. Insert the applicator high into the vagina and press the plunger to release the medication. Use this product usually once a day at bedtime, or as directed by your doctor. If you have extra applicators, discard each one after use. If you have only one applicator, clean it with warm soapy water and rinse well. Do not boil or use hot water to clean the applicator.

To prevent medication from leaking out of the vagina, lie down as soon as possible after use.

Antibiotics work best when the amount of medicine in your body is kept at a constant level. Therefore, use this drug at evenly spaced intervals.

Continue to use this medication for the full number of days prescribed even if symptoms disappear after a few days. Stopping the medication too early may allow bacteria to continue to grow, which may result in a relapse of the infection.

Inform your doctor if your condition persists or worsens.

Before using clindamycin, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or to lincomycin; or if you have any other allergies. This product may contain inactive ingredients, which can cause allergic reactions or other problems. Talk to your pharmacist for more details.

Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: intestinal diseases (e.g., Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea, enteritis, ulcerative colitis).

Do not have vaginal intercourse or use tampons or douches while using this medication because these can cause the cream to not work as well.

The mineral oil in this product can weaken rubber products such as latex condoms and diaphragms and lead to their failure. Therefore, do not use these products during treatment with this medication and for 72 hours after treatment is over. Consult your doctor about other forms of barrier protection/birth control (e.g., polyurethane condoms) during this time.

This medication should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Oral antibiotics have been used to treat vaginal infections during pregnancy, especially high-risk pregnancies (e.g., early childbirth). Consult your doctor for more details and to discuss the risks and benefits.

It is not known if the medication in this product passes into breast milk. While there have been no reports of harm to nursing infants, consult your doctor before breast-feeding.

If someone has overdosed and has serious symptoms such as passing out or trouble breathing, call 911. Otherwise, call a poison control center right away. US residents can call their local poison control center at 1-800-222-1222. Canada residents can call a provincial poison control center. This medication may be harmful if swallowed.

Notes

Do not share this medication with others.

This medication has been prescribed for your current condition only. Do not use it later for another infection unless told to do so by your doctor. A different medication may be necessary in those cases. Consult your doctor for more details.

Missed Dose

If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to catch up.

Storage

Store at room temperature away from light and moisture. Do not store in the bathroom. Protect from freezing. Keep all medications away from children and pets.
