Tablet, oral:

Contraindications

Do not use to sedate or make a child sleep; with or within 14 days of stopping a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAO) inhibitor therapy.

Dosing Geriatric

Refer to adult dosing.

Dosing Pediatric

Note: All dosing is presented in terms of chlorpheniramine maleate, phenylephrine hydrochloride, and dextromethorphan hydrobromide.

Cough and upper respiratory symptoms: Oral: Dosing may vary by product; consult specific product labeling.

Children: 6 to 11 years:

Liquid:

Chlorpheniramine 1 mg, phenylephrine 3.5 mg, and dextromethorphan 3 mg per 1 mL: 1 mL every 4 to 6 hours (maximum: 6 mL/24 hours)

Chlorpheniramine 2 to 4 mg, phenylephrine 5 to 10 mg, and dextromethorphan 12.5 to 15 mg per 5 mL: 2.5 mL every 4 to 6 hours (maximum: 15 mL/24 hours)

Tablet: Chlorpheniramine 4 mg, phenylephrine 10 mg, and dextromethorphan 10 mg: One-half tablet every 4 hours (maximum: 3 tablets/24 hours)

Children ≥12 years: Refer to adult dosing.

Dosing Hepatic Impairment

There are no dosage adjustments provided in the manufacturer's labeling.

Patient Education

• Discuss specific use of drug and side effects with patient as it relates to treatment. (HCAHPS: During this hospital stay, were you given any medicine that you had not taken before? Before giving you any new medicine, how often did hospital staff tell you what the medicine was for? How often did hospital staff describe possible side effects in a way you could understand?)

• Patient may experience dizziness, anxiety, insomnia, or fatigue (HCAHPS).

• Educate patient about signs of a significant reaction (eg, wheezing; chest tightness; fever; itching; bad cough; blue skin color; seizures; or swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat). Note: This is not a comprehensive list of all side effects. Patient should consult prescriber for additional questions.
