What is Blephamide S.O.P. (sulfacetamide and prednisolone ophthalmic)?

Sulfacetamide is an antibiotic. It is used to treat bacterial infections.

Prednisolone is a steroid. It is used to treat the swelling associated with bacterial infections of the eye.

Sulfacetamide and prednisolone ophthalmic is used to treat bacterial infections of the eyes.

Sulfacetamide and prednisolone ophthalmic may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide.

Blephamide S.O.P. (sulfacetamide and prednisolone ophthalmic) side effects

Serious side effects are not expected with this medication.

Some burning, stinging, irritation, itching, redness, blurred vision, eyelid itching, eyelid swelling, or sensitivity to light may occur.

How is this medicine (Blephamide S.O.P.) best taken?

Use this medicine as ordered by your doctor. Read all information given to you. Follow all instructions closely.

  • For the eye only.
  • To gain the most benefit, do not miss doses.
  • Use as you have been told, even if your signs get better.
  • Wash your hands before and after use.
  • Do not touch the container tip to the eye, lid, or other skin.
  • Avoid wearing contacts unless told to wear them by your doctor.
  • Gently pull down the lower lid and squeeze in how much the doctor told you to use.
  • Let go of the lower eyelid and keep eyes closed for 1 to 2 minutes.

What do I do if I miss a dose?

  • Use a missed dose as soon as you think about it.
  • If it is close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your normal time.
  • Do not use 2 doses at the same time or extra doses.

Usual Adult Dose for Bacterial Conjunctivitis

Steroid responsive inflammatory ocular conditions with superficial bacterial infection or risk of infection:

Solution/suspension: Instill 2 drops into the conjunctival sac of the affected eye(s) every 4 hours during the day and at bedtime.

Ointment: Apply small amount (1/2 inch ribbon) into the conjunctival sac of the affected eye(s) 3 to 4 times daily and once or twice at night.

Usual Adult Dose for Keratitis

Steroid responsive inflammatory ocular conditions with superficial bacterial infection or risk of infection:

Solution/suspension: Instill 2 drops into the conjunctival sac of the affected eye(s) every 4 hours during the day and at bedtime.
