What happens if I overdose?

An overdose of terbinafine is not expected to be dangerous. Seek emergency medical attention or call the Poison Help line at 1-800-222-1222 if anyone has accidentally swallowed the medication.

What should I avoid while using Athlete's Foot Cream (terbinafine topical)?

If this medicine gets in your eyes, nose, mouth, rectum, or vagina, rinse with water.

Avoid using other medications on the areas you treat with terbinafine unless your doctor tells you to.

Avoid wearing tight-fitting, synthetic clothing that doesn't allow air circulation. Wear loose-fitting clothing made of cotton and other natural fibers until your infection is healed.

Usual Adult Dose for Tinea Pedis

Cream, spray: Apply to the affected area twice a day.
Gel: Apply to the affected area once a day.

Usual Adult Dose for Tinea Versicolor

Solution: Apply to the affected area twice a day.

Usual Pediatric Dose for Tinea Pedis

12 years or older:
Cream, spray: Apply to the affected area twice a day.
Gel: Apply to the affected area once a day.

Precautions

Terbinafine topical is not for ophthalmic or vaginal use. Contact with the face, eyes, or mucous membranes should be avoided.

Patients should be advised to discontinue use and notify their physician if increased signs of irritation (e.g., redness, itching, burning, blistering, swelling, oozing) or sensitivity develop.

Terbinafine topical solution contains 28.7% alcohol and may cause skin irritation.

Safety and effectiveness have not been established in pediatric patients less than 18 years of age (solution) and less than 12 years of age (cream, gel, and spray).

Terbinafine topical Pregnancy Warnings

Terbinafine topical has been assigned to pregnancy category B by the FDA. Animal studies using high oral and subcutaneous doses have not revealed evidence of teratogenicity. There are no controlled data in human pregnancy. Terbinafine should only be used during pregnancy when the need has been clearly established.
