Sulconazole Topical

Sulconazole is used to treat skin infections such as athlete's foot (cream only), jock itch, and ringworm.

This medication is sometimes prescribed for other uses; ask your doctor or pharmacist for more information.

Sulconazole may cause side effects. If you experience any of the following symptoms, call your doctor immediately:

• itching
• rash
• burning
• irritation or stinging
• redness

If you experience a serious side effect, you or your doctor may send a report to the Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) MedWatch Adverse Event Reporting program online (http://www.fda.gov/Safety/MedWatch) or by phone (1-800-332-1088).

Get emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficult breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Stop using sulconazole and call your doctor at once if you have:

• severe blistering, itching, redness, peeling, dryness, or irritation of treated skin.

Common side effects may include:

• mild stinging, burning, itching, or redness where the medicine was applied.

Burning, stinging, swelling, irritation, redness, pimple-like bumps, tenderness, or flaking of the treated skin may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor or pharmacist promptly.

Remember that your doctor has prescribed this medication because he or she has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects.

Tell your doctor right away if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur: blistering, oozing, open sores.

A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of a serious allergic reaction may include: rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, trouble breathing.

Your healthcare professionals (e.g., doctor or pharmacist) may already be aware of any possible drug interactions and may be monitoring you for it. Do not start, stop or change the dosage of any medicine before checking with them first.

Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist of all prescription and nonprescription/herbal products you may use.

Keep a list of all your medications with you, and share the list with your doctor and pharmacist.

This medicine may be harmful if swallowed. If someone has overdosed and has serious symptoms such as passing out or trouble breathing, call 911. Otherwise, call a poison control center right away. US residents can call their local poison control center at 1-800-222-1222. Canada residents can call a provincial poison control center.

Do not share this medication with others.

This medication has been prescribed for your current condition only. Do not use it later for another infection unless told to do so by your doctor. A different medication may be necessary in those cases.

When treating pityriasis, this medication may not cause an immediate return to normal skin color. It may take several months after treatment is completed for your natural skin color to return.

Missed Dose

If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to catch up.

Storage

Store at room temperature below 104 degrees F (40 degrees C) away from high heat and light. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep all medicines away from children and pets.

Do not flush medications down the toilet or pour them into a drain unless instructed to do so. Properly discard this product when it is expired or no longer needed. Applies to sulconazole topical: topical cream, topical solution

Along with its needed effects, sulconazole topical may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor as soon as possible if any of the following side effects occur while taking sulconazole topical:

• Burning or stinging, itching, redness of the skin, or other signs of irritation not present before use of this medicine

Topical cream or solution: Gently massage a small amount into the affected and surrounding skin areas once or twice a day.
Duration of therapy: 3 weeks

Comments:
-Topical cream: Most patients have early symptom relief; clinical improvement may be seen fairly soon after start of therapy.
-Topical solution: Symptomatic relief usually occurs within a few days after starting this product; clinical improvement usually occurs within 1 week.
-Should treat for 3 weeks to reduce possible recurrence

Uses: For the treatment of tinea cruris and tinea corporis due to Trichophyton rubrum, T mentagrophytes, Epidermophyton floccosum, and Microsporum canis; for the treatment of tinea versicolor
