Naloxegol Overdose

If you take too much naloxegol, call your healthcare provider or local Poison Control Center, or seek emergency medical attention right away.

If naloxegol is administered by a healthcare provider in a medical setting, it is unlikely that an overdose will occur. However, if overdose is suspected, seek emergency medical attention.

Precautions While Using naloxegol

It is very important that your doctor check your progress at regular visits. This will allow your doctor to see if the medicine is working properly and to decide if you should continue to take it.

Do not take naloxegol together with clarithromycin, itraconazole, or ketoconazole. Using these medicines together may cause or worsen opioid withdrawal symptoms, such as anxiety, chills, diarrhea, irritability, stomach pain, sweating, and yawning.

Call your doctor right away if you have severe stomach pain or diarrhea while you are using naloxegol.

naloxegol may cause a tear (perforation) in your stomach or bowels. Check with your doctor right away if you have a severe stomach pain that does not go away.

Do not take other medicines unless they have been discussed with your doctor. This includes prescription or nonprescription (over-the-counter [OTC]) medicines and herbal (eg, St. John's wort) or vitamin supplements.

How is this medicine (Naloxegol) best taken?

Use this medicine as ordered by your doctor. Read all information given to you. Follow all instructions closely.

  • Take on an empty stomach. Take at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after the first meal of the day.
  • If you are not able to swallow naloxegol whole, it can be crushed and mixed in 4 ounces (120 mL) of water. Drink right away after mixing. Refill the glass with 120 mL of water, stir, and drink.
  • Those who have feeding tubes may use this medicine. Use as you have been told. Flush the feeding tube after naloxegol is given.

What do I do if I miss a dose?

  • Take a missed dose as soon as you think about it.
  • If it is close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your normal time.
  • Do not take 2 doses at the same time or extra doses.

Pregnancy Risk Factor C Pregnancy Considerations

Adverse events were not observed in animal reproduction studies. However, exposure during pregnancy may potentiate opioid withdrawal in the fetus.

Usual Adult Dose for Constipation - Drug Induced

Opioid-Induced Constipation - Chronic:

Initial dose: 25 mg orally once a day
Maintenance dose: 25 mg orally once a day; dose may be reduced to 12.5 mg orally once a day for patients unable to tolerate higher dose

Comments: Prior to initiation, discontinue all maintenance laxative therapy; laxatives can be used as needed for suboptimal response after 3 days.

Use: For the treatment of opioid-induced constipation in adult patients with chronic non-cancer pain.
