Fluciclovine F 18 injection is used to help diagnose recurrent prostate cancer. It is used for a procedure called positron emission tomography (PET) scan to detect tumors.

Fluciclovine F 18 is a radiopharmaceutical. Radiopharmaceuticals are radioactive agents, which may be used to find and treat certain diseases or to study the function of the body's organs.

Proper Use of fluciclovine f 18

A doctor or other trained health professional will give you fluciclovine f 18. fluciclovine f 18 is given through a needle placed in one of your veins just before you have a PET scan.

Avoid significant exercises for at least 1 day before the PET scan.

Do not eat or drink anything for at least 4 hours before you receive fluciclovine f 18 (other than small amounts of water for taking other medicines).

You will need to urinate right away and as often as possible for at least 1 hour after the PET scan.

It is very important that your doctor check you closely while you are receiving fluciclovine f 18. This will allow your doctor to see if the medicine is working properly and to decide if you should continue to receive it.

fluciclovine f 18 may cause serious allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis. Anaphylaxis requires immediate medical attention. The most serious signs of this reaction are very fast or irregular breathing, gasping for breath, or fainting. Other signs may include changes in color of the skin of the face, very fast but irregular heartbeat or pulse, hive-like swellings on the skin, and puffiness or swellings of the eyelids or around the eyes. If these side effects occur, tell your doctor right away.
