This section provides information on the proper use of a number of products that contain zinc oxide. It may not be specific to Boudreaux's Butt Paste. Please read with care.

This medicine is for use on the skin only. Do not get it in the eyes.

To use:

  • Wash your hands with soap and water before and after using this medicine.
  • Clean the diaper area with mild soap and water. Allow it to dry.
  • Apply the cream to the diaper area with each diaper change, at bedtime, or when prolonged exposure to wet diapers may occur.

Dosing

The dose of this medicine will be different for different patients. Follow your doctor's orders or the directions on the label. The following information includes only the average doses of this medicine. If your dose is different, do not change it unless your doctor tells you to do so.

The amount of medicine that you take depends on the strength of the medicine. Also, the number of doses you take each day, the time allowed between doses, and the length of time you take the medicine depend on the medical problem for which you are using the medicine.

  • For topical dosage form (cream):
    • For prevention and treatment of diaper rash:
      • Adults—Apply to the affected area of the skin as needed.
      • Children—Apply to the affected area of the skin as needed.

Storage

Store the medicine in a closed container at room temperature, away from heat, moisture, and direct light. Keep from freezing.

Keep out of the reach of children.

Do not keep outdated medicine or medicine no longer needed.

Ask your healthcare professional how you should dispose of any medicine you do not use.

Precautions While Using Boudreaux's Butt Paste

If your or your child's symptoms do not improve within 7 days, or if they become worse, check with your doctor.

If you or your child accidentally swallow the medicine, call the Poison Control Center right away.

What are some things I need to know or do while I take Boudreaux's Butt Paste?

  • Tell all of your health care providers that you take this medicine. This includes your doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and dentists.
  • Do not put on open or deep wounds, animal bites, infections, or very bad burns or cuts.
  • This medicine may cause harm if swallowed. If Boudreaux's Butt Paste is swallowed, call a doctor or poison control center right away.
  • Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan on getting pregnant. You will need to talk about the benefits and risks of using this medicine while you are pregnant.
  • Tell your doctor if you are breast-feeding. You will need to talk about any risks to your baby.

How is this medicine (Boudreaux's Butt Paste) best taken?

Use Boudreaux's Butt Paste as ordered by your doctor. Read all information given to you. Follow all instructions closely.

  • Do not take this medicine by mouth. Use on your skin only. Keep out of your mouth, nose, and eyes (may burn).
  • Wash your hands before and after use. Do not wash your hands after use if putting this on your hand.
  • Clean affected part before use. Make sure to dry well.
  • Put on affected part and rub gently.
  • If you are using under a diaper, change the diaper often. Clean the affected area and allow it to dry. Use the drug with each diaper changed, especially at bedtime.

What do I do if I miss a dose?

  • Put on a missed dose as soon as you think about it.
  • Many times Boudreaux's Butt Paste is used on an as needed basis. Do not use more often than told by the doctor.

What are some other side effects of Boudreaux's Butt Paste?

All drugs may cause side effects. However, many people have no side effects or only have minor side effects. Call your doctor or get medical help if you have any side effects that bother you or do not go away.
