Generic: nadolol/bendroflumethiazide
Form: Oral tablet Strengths: 80 mg nadolol/5 mg bendroflumethiazide Adult dosage (ages 18–64 years)Your starting dose of this medication may be 40 mg nadolol/5 mg bendroflumethiazide, once daily. If needed, your doctor may increase your dose to 80 mg nadolol/5 mg bendroflumethiazide, once daily.
If needed, your doctor may start you on another blood pressure drug in addition to this drug. For this new drug, your doctor may start you at 50% of the usual starting dose. This can help prevent a dangerous drop in blood pressure.
Child dosage (ages 0–17 years)This medication has not been studied in children. It should not be used in people younger than 18 years.
Senior dosage (ages 65 years and older)The kidneys of older adults may not work as well as they used to. This can cause your body to process drugs more slowly. As a result, more of a drug stays in your body for a longer time. This increases your risk of side effects.
Your doctor may start you on a lowered dose or a different medication schedule. This can help keep levels of this drug from building up too much in your body.
Special considerationsKidney failure: Your kidneys help remove this drug from your body. If your kidneys aren’t working well, your dosage of this medication may need to be decreased. This can help prevent the build-up of high levels of the drug in your body. Your dosage and how often you take this drug will be based on how well your kidneys clear a waste product called creatinine from your body. Your doctor can tell you more. If you have severe or moderate kidney disease, your doctor may instruct you to take this drug every 36 hours or 48 hours instead of once daily.
