What happens if I miss a dose?

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. Skip the missed dose if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose. Do not take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.

Amoxicillin, clarithromycin, and omeprazole dosing information

Usual Adult Dose for Duodenal Ulcer:

Amoxicillin 500 mg-clarithromycin 500 mg-omeprazole 20 mg orally 2 times a day
-Duration of therapy: 10 days

Comments:
-Doses should be given in the morning and evening before eating a meal.
-An additional 18 days of treatment with omeprazole 20 mg orally once a day is recommended for patients with an ulcer at initiation of treatment.

Use: Eradication of Helicobacter pylori in patients with active duodenal ulcer of a history of duodenal ulcer disease

What other drugs will affect amoxicillin, clarithromycin, and omeprazole?

A gout medication called colchicine (Colcrys) can interact with clarithromycin and cause serious or life-threatening medical problems. You should not take colchicine during your treatment with amoxicillin, clarithromycin, and omeprazole, especially if you are an older adult with kidney disease.

Many drugs can interact with amoxicillin, clarithromycin, and omeprazole. Below is just a partial list. Tell your doctor if you are using:

  • ampicillin (Omnipen, Principen);

  • carbamazepine (Equetro, Carbatrol, Tegretol);

  • cilostazol (Pletal);

  • digoxin (Lanoxin, Lanoxicaps);

  • ketoconazole (Nizoral);

  • probenecid (Benemid);

  • sildenafil (Viagra, Revatio);

  • tacrolimus (Prograf);

  • theophylline (Elixophyllin, Theo-24, Theochron, Uniphyl);

  • a blood thinner such as warfarin (Coumadin, Jantoven);

  • cholesterol-lowering drugs such as lovastatin (Mevacor, Altoprev, Advicor) or simvastatin (Zocor, Simcor, Vytorin, Juvisync);

  • a heart rhythm medication such as disopyramide (Norpace) or quinidine (Quin-G);

  • HIV/AIDS medications such as atazanavir (Reyataz), nelfinavir (Viracept), or saquinavir (Invirase);

  • iron supplements (Feosol, Mol-Iron, Fergon, Femiron, and others); or

  • a sedative such as alprazolam (Xanax), midazolam (Versed), or triazolam (Halcion).

This list is not complete and there are many other drugs that can interact with amoxicillin, clarithromycin, and omeprazole. Tell your doctor about all medications you use. This includes prescription, over-the-counter, vitamin, and herbal products. Do not start a new medication without telling your doctor. Keep a list of all your medicines and show it to any healthcare provider who treats you.

Along with its needed effects, amoxicillin / clarithromycin / omeprazole may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur while taking amoxicillin / clarithromycin / omeprazole:

Incidence not known
  • Abdominal or stomach tenderness, cramps, or pain
  • blistering, peeling, or loosening of the skin
  • diarrhea
  • difficulty with swallowing
  • dizziness
  • fast heartbeat
  • fever or chills
  • hives or welts, itching, or skin rash
  • joint or muscle pain
  • large, hive-like swelling on the face, eyelids, lips, tongue, throat, hands, legs, feet, or sex organs
  • muscle pain or weakness
  • puffiness or swelling of the eyelids or around the eyes, face, lips, or tongue
  • red skin lesions, often with a purple center
  • redness of the skin
  • sores, ulcers, or white spots in the mouth or on the lips
  • swelling of the body, feet, and ankles
  • tightness in the chest
  • unusual tiredness or weakness
  • unusual weight gain
  • watery and severe diarrhea, which may also be bloody

Some side effects of amoxicillin / clarithromycin / omeprazole may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

  • change in taste
  • headache

Renal Dose Adjustments

-Mild to moderate renal dysfunction No adjustment recommended.
-Severe renal dysfunction: Consider longer dosage intervals.
